Anti-Jesus christians

How does a person manage to be a christian conservative? It seems a bit illogical doesn't it? Jesus was anti-wealth, and conservatives favor it heavily. Conservatives show no love to gays, but Jesus preached to embrace everyone. Jesus told people to be honest, while conservatives lie like maniacs to prevent health care reform -- which would help save lives. Jesus overall was a pretty liberal figure; I don't find many similarities between his teachings and modern conservatism. It makes me chuckle everytime I hear someone confess love to christ in one breath, then in the next breath scream and cry about having to pay a little money to save other people's lives; how do they do it?
